The Murphy Institute

Richardson Renovation

A NEW HOME FOR THE MURPHY INSTITUTE

Renovation of The Richardson Building $14 Million

Early in the Murphy Institute’s strategic planning process, one thing became clear: The Murphy Institute needed more room - a larger and more welcoming space where all members of our community - faculty, students, staff, alumni, and a steady stream of visitors from around the world - could come together for intellectual exchange.

With typical annual enrollments of more than 100 majors, a significantly expanded faculty and staff, and the new Center for Ethics and Public Affairs, we’ve simply outgrown our current quarters in Tilton Hall.

Our planned renovation of the Richardson Building will recover this historic structure’s original identity as a vital academic crossroads. The building will house not only The Murphy Institute, but also the Center for Ethics and Public Affairs and the Departments of Economics and Philosophy. It also will Richardson Building provide the Tulane community with a revitalized academic center, complete with space for conferences and public lectures, in the heart of the uptown campus.
