Gary Gutting is Notre Dame Professor of Philosophy at the University of Notre Dame. He is the author of Religious Belief and Religious Skepticism (University of Notre Dame Press, 1982), Michel Foucault’s Archeology of Scientific Reason (1989), Pragmatic Liberalism and the Critique of Modernity (1999), French Philosophy in the Twentieth Century (2001) (all from Cambridge University Press), and Michel Foucault: A Very Short Introduction (Oxford University Press, 2005). He has co-authored or edited another six volumes, including The Cambridge Companion to Foucault (2nd edition, 2005) and Continental Philosophy of Science (Blackwell, 2005). His current book project, under contract with Cambridge University Press, is “What Philosophers Know: Revolution and Argument in Recent Analytic Philosophy.”
